Board of Trustees discusses Campus Master Plan
The Board of Trustees held their third and final meeting of the academic year Friday. The Trustees were informed that construction of the Shapiro Campus Center is on schedule, and that the ideal is to obtain an occupancy permit by August 9. The opening ceremony is scheduled for October.The plans for renovating Usdan Student Center were also discussed. The Graduate Students Association and Hillel may get more space. In addition, a "one-stop shopping" for students is being discussed. Offices with which students interact, such as the Bursar, could be moved to Usdan for students' convenience.
"That's nice that they're prioritizing our convenience over theirs," Union President Ben Brandzel '03, who attending the meeting in his capacity as a Representative to the Board of Trustees for the 2001-2002 academic year, said.
During the 2002-03 academic year Ebone Bishop '04 and Jonathan Sclarsic '03 will serve as the student representatives to the Trustees. Both Representative to the Board of Trustees Nakisha Evans '02 and Brandzel addressed the Trustees. Evans made recommendations to the Trustees regarding increasing diversity on campus.
She suggested they create a school wide diversity plan, create an office of diversity affairs, and have campus wide diversity training sessions.
The University's Master Plan was also discussed. Brandzel said community building and enhancing the social life on campus is a part of the Master Plan.
"It was designed to facilitate community building through outdoor interaction but when it's cold, raining or snowing, we need to facilitate community building through indoor interaction, and I worry about our ability to do that," Brandzel said.
It was also announced that the University has raised $202 million of its $470 million capital campaign.
