EDITORIAL: Brandeis mourns another
"I was just so shocked," Prof. Timothy Hickey (COSI) said last week upon the death of Ming Ming Hao (GRAD). For the third time this academic year, Brandeis finds itself in mourning. The loss of Ming, a student in the computer science department, comes at a time when we are still recovering from the deaths of Eliezer "Elie" Schwartz '04 and Mary Jagoda '05. Although we have suffered through loss before, Ming's passing stings the community no less than the loss of any other student.
Prof. Timothy Hickey, chair of the computer science department, remembered Ming as a "fearless student." Coming to Brandeis from McGill University in Montreal, Ming spent over two years studying under the computer science faculty and enriching the studies of its undergraduate students as a teaching assistant.
And as serious an academic she was, Ming took great interest in working with three-dimensional graphics and computer games. Her professors enjoyed her artistry and the sense of humor that she brought to the department.
While we cannot feel the pain felt by Ming's family and close friends at this time, we offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to those who are bereaved. But Ming's memory will not be forgotten, especially among her friends and colleagues.
