The men's ultimate frisbee club, Tron, had what captain Lionel Winninger '05 called "one of the best weekends in Brandeis ultimate history" as the team went 5-2 through two days at the Metro Boston Sectionals this weekend. Tron went 2-1 on Saturday in the pool bracket to advance to Sunday's championship bracket, where it went 3-1 to finish in fourth place overall, just qualifying for the Ultimate Players Association regionals April 30 and May 1 in Portsmouth, R.I."This is an amazing weekend," Winninger said. "We were complete underdogs. No one expected us to beat the teams we beat."

Tron topped Harvard University B 13-1 and Northeastern University B 13-7 on Saturday before dropping its last game of the pool bracket to Tufts University 13-4.

Brandeis continued to surprise in the championship bracket on Sunday, beating Northeastern A twice and Boston University once while losing to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The team needed every win it got to qualify for regionals and none provided more momentum than the first game against Northeastern A on Sunday. Tron trailed 5-1 early in the game but put together a 12-1 run that propelled the team to a 13-6 victory and their eventual fourth-place finish.

Brandeis beat BU 13-8 in the next game and lost to MIT 15-4 before beating Northeastern A again 15-12 in the final game of the tournament to clinch a spot in regionals.

"We've been working through a lot of injuries the entire season and everyone was there for this tournament," Winninger said. "It was an amazing effort from everyone."

Winninger led the team with a huck (long distance passes completed) percentage of 81 in Sunday's games while Captain Anton Pribysh '05 had eight layout D's and Jeremy Kurtz '06 had six layout O's.

"We surprised everyone by getting to regionals," Winninger said. "We'd like to stay on that track and prove that we can roll with the big boys.
