Housing Advisory Committee Coordinator Amanda Denmark '07 reported that the Castle's class designation may switch from sophomores to juniors in the future. BIPAC President Jacob Baime '08 told the Senate that the Student Union should pass a resolution on the threat Iran poses to Israel and the United States by early March.

Appointed Representative to the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee Carol Ortenberg '06 said the UCC is in the process of clarifying guidelines for credit-bearing internships. The committee is also considering granting credit for paid internships, as many other universities do, she said.

Ortenberg said the UCC is discussing changes to the USEM program, including possibly substituting an oral communications course. for a writing course.

She added that the Hiatt Career Center is understaffed by seven people and undergoing changes.

Union President Jenny Feinberg '07 swore in the four newly elected senators: Noah Seifman '08 for East Quad, Noah Haber for the Class of 2008, Laura Covey for the Class of 2007 and Michael Hellmann for the Class of 2006.

Feinberg discussed an empty space in the Village Quad. She said Head of University Services Mark Collins sees a need for a food venue in that area especially with the new quad proposed to replace Ridgewood. Collins said students would prefer it to be a non-Aramark-run establishment, and Feinberg said students have approached her about setting up a bakery in that space.

Union Secretary Aaron Braver '06 said he was frustrated LTS didn't fix election kinks regarding midyear students by this election. Midyears were given the opportunity to vote for the class year before them, and not in the election for their own class year. At the suggestion of Senior Vice President for Students and Enrollment Jean Eddy, he will forward 20 angry e-mails from disenfranchised midyear students to Vice President for Information Technology and Libraries Perry Hanson.

Executive Senator and Dining Services Committee Chair Alison Schwartzbaum '08 said her committee's major initiative this semester is getting a meal equivalency at the C-Store and Java City.

Michael Sitzman (GSAS) asked for recognition of the club Chums of Chum's. He said he wants to allow Cholmondley's to have a Web page because only recognized groups are given Web space. He also said the group will advocate for the coffeehouse. The Senate informally supported the purpose of the group while not supporting its constitution as written. The request was tabled. Noah Haber will assist Sitzman in writing a more acceptable constitution.

The Financial Support Committee allocated $900 toward the $5,800 production costs of a video made by Brandeis students about an Orthodox Jew sharing a room with someone from a small town.

Voicemale was granted $750 of a $2,000 request to fund CD production.
