Harrison Chizik '07, a key architect of last semester's Student Union reforms of the club funding system, voluntarily withdrew from the University, leaving the position of Union Treasurer vacant since June ,Union officials said. As F-board member in the Fall 2005 semester and chair in Spring 2006, Chizik played an integral role in overseeing the Student Activities Fee amendments, passed last semester, which can potentially redistribute some money allocated for larger secured groups to smaller chartered groups. He was elected to the position in May.

Chizik did not respond to an e-mail from the Justice seeking comment.

It has not been difficult to take over Chizik's work, Union officials said.

"It's not slowing us down in any way," Union President Alison Schwartzbaum '08 said.

Union Director of Communications Brian Paternostro '07 has assumed the role of liaison between clubs and the Union and Director of Executive Affairs Adam Gartner '07 is helping oversee a smooth implementation of the SAF amendment, officials said.

In Chizik's absence, Schwartzbaum has been sitting in on F-Board meetings.

Paternostro said this doesn't compromise the separation of the F-Board and the Union Executive Office because Schwartzbaum can veto any F-Board decision anyway.

"Is it a stretch?" Paternostro said. "Maybe. But we're doing what we got to do."

Elections for a new treasurer will be held during the regular fall election cycle, Sept. 13 to 15.

Paternostro was the lone candidate for treasurer at press time.

Signs-up to run for treasurer are outside the Union office until Wednesday at 9 p.m.
