A "modified Modfest" has been tentatively scheduled for Oct. 21, Student Union Director of Social Affairs Cindy Kaplan '08 announced at the Union Senate meeting Monday night.Modfest, the popular outdoor party held in the Foster Mods, which provides free beer to students over 21, was placed under a "moratorium" last spring by the administration because of concerns that it promotes excessive drinking and results in an abnormally high number of ambulances dispatched on campus in response to intoxicated individuals.

Union President Alison Schwartzbaum '08 said her administration is discussing new safety measures to implement at this year's party.

"It's going to be equally fun, but safer," Kaplan said.

Assistant Dean of Student Life Alwina Bennett said she assumes alcohol will still be served to students of age.
