Wife of Brandeis benefactor Rabb dies at age of 94 in Florida home
Eleanor Rabb, the wife of founding University Trustee Norman Rabb and a long-time Brandeis supporter, died July 16 at her home in Palm Beach, Fla. She was 94.Mrs. Rabb grew up in Newburg, NY. She went to college for one year, but soon met Mr. Rabb, and the two were married in 1933. Mr. Rabb died in 1997, after 63 years of marriage.
"She was a hardened supporter of my father and he cared so passionately about Brandeis, that anything he wanted to do for Brandeis, she was behind him," said her daughter Hope Edison, 70, of St. Louis.
The Rabb's support helped establish the University's Rabb School of Continuing Studies and the Rabb Graduate Center. Mrs. Rabb was a member of the Brandeis Board of Fellows, and Mr. Rabb served as Trustee chairman from 1961-1967.
"Eleanor and Norman were passionate supporters of Brandeis from the very earliest days of the University," University President Jehuda Reinharz said in a statement. "The Rabbs gave generously of their time, energy and resources in service to the Jewish community and the betterment of the human condition. She will be sorely missed by Brandeis. I extend my deepest sympathies to her family."
Mrs. Rabb is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edison and Jane Rabb, 67, of Cambridge; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister. Private services were held July 23 in Boston.
