Dean of Academic Services Kim Godsoe reported that the Office of Academic Services hired P.J. Dickson, grad student in American History and former Posse mentor, as a fulltime first-year adviser. She also reported that the office improved the assignment of first-year advisers. Students will now fill out the adviser- matching forms online. The forms will also provide more information, sending out assignments before course registration and requiring students to first meet their adviser individually instead of in a group. Godsoe reported that 40 percent of juniors are studying abroad this year in countries such as Jordan, Peru, Tanzania, Senegal and Oman, among others.

There will be an additional Posse program beginning next year focused on science, Godsoe said. The original, 10-year- old Posse program will be renamed the Liberal Arts Posse Program.

Godsoe said that, together with Dean of Arts and Sciences Adam Jaffe, the Office of Academic Services is looking to change the policy whereby students are placed on probation after receiving a 'D' two semesters in a row because it seemed "overly restrictive" compared with the policies of peer institutions.
