Representatives from the Athletics Department will soon meet with administrators and Student Union members to discuss a plan for the new weight room in Gosman Sports and Convocation Center. The Student Union originally allocated $100,000 for the project but it is unclear as of now whether all the rollover Student Activities Fee money exists. Last spring, the Student Union held a contest in which students or student groups could submit proposals for how to spend approximately $100,000 in SAF that had not been spent by clubs over the past five years.

The student athlete advisory committee put the proposal forward and the vendor the committee selected estimated the cost of the project at $113,000, Director of Athletics Sheryl Sousa said.

Student Union President Jason Gray '10 said that when the school year ended, the Student Union had between $75,000 and $100,000 in rollover SAF funds after allocating some of this money to clubs throughout the year. The exact amount of money will be determined this week.

Dean of Student Life Rick Sawyer said that in a meeting before the summer Gray and Student Union Treasurer Max Wallach '09 expressed doubt that $100,000 would be available for the project.

After the meeting, a weight room committee spent the summer investigating other vendors to build the weight room and will make its recommendation when it meets with the Student Union, Sousa said. She could not confirm the name of the vendor but said the cost is estimated to be lower than the original amount.

"We're going to have enough money to do the weight room and fund clubs-it's all working out," Gray said.
