University and Dining Services administrators extended brunch hours in Usdan Cafe from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, among other changes, in an effort to meet student needs, administrators said. The Dining Services Student Committee worked since last fall to determine what dining hall hours would be best and urged administrators to consider its requests, head of the Dining Service Committee Jenna Brofsky '10 said.

Brofsky said that Dining Services administrators were receptive to the dining committee ideas during a meeting last fall.

"I think that on some levels they must have been considering [the idea] too," she said.

"After speaking with University administrators about dining hours] it was decided that we should extend the hours to better meet the needs, lifestyles and schedules of students," Director of Dining Services Mike Newmark said.

The dining committee then sent out online polls to students and tabled in Usdan , Brofsky said.

She said the administrators officially extended the hours over the summer.

In addition to the change in hours, Brofsky said Usdan Cafe will add a permanent sushi station, more locally grown organic food, a farmer's market on select Sundays in the fall, extended vegan options and a choice of local and/or organic, cage-free eggs, among other changes.

"The committee will continue to work towards increasing hours and having more options and getting more student input for future dining projects and improvements," Brofsky said.
