Quiznos scheduled to open on Thursday
Quiznos, a national food chain known for its sandwiches, is scheduled to open for lunch and dinner on Thursday in Upper Usdan Student Center, according to Director of Dining Services Mike Newmark.Newmark said that final inspections, final operational setup and staff training still need to be completed before Thursday. As for the construction, "all will be complete [by Thursday]," he wrote.
Vice President of Campus Operations Mark Collins wrote in an Aug. 21 e-mail to the Justice, "The idea of adding a national brand sub concept . originated five years ago through discussions with Aramark, students and administration."
Collins explained that community focus groups, student surveys, traffic flow analysis, campus layout and preferred national brand studies were all taken into consideration.
He wrote that the plan was "reshaped and re-analyzed" over the years based on feedback and surveys, as well as meetings with student groups, including the student dining committee, composed of students selected by the Student Union.
In his e-mail, Newmark explained, "Aramark worked closely with University administration, Quiznos, architects and construction companies to bring this new concept to campus."
Collins originally estimated that the construction budget would be $665,000. In an e-mail to the Justice, Newmark wrote that final budget numbers are "not available at this time."
The Quiznos hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to midnight.
Newmark wrote that students will be able to use a variety of payment methods, including points, dining dollars, credit cards, cash, WhoCash and meals, though meals and C-Meals will only be for select items.
Newmark wrote, "I believe students are excited to have another dining option/choice on campus. ... Toasted specialty subs are just a part of the menu selection that will be offered and I'm confident students will welcome this new addition to our ever expanding Dining Services platform.
