Athlete of the Week: Mimi Theodore '12
With a header into the back of the net, women's soccer midfielder Mimi Theodore '12 scored the second goal of the game in the Judges' 3-1 victory over Springfield College Saturday. Theodore also assisted on the final goal for the Judges, scored by forward Sofia Vallone '11. The goal and assist were Theodore's first points of the season.
"This is the first time that I really [understood] my duties as an outside midfielder," she said.
Theodore, who graduated from local Walpole High School, has scored 14 goals and dished out seven assists in her career. In 2009, Theodore racked up a team-high 10 goals, good enough for fifth in the University Athletic Association.
Theodore's progression with the soccer team has been about learning the system instilled by her coaches.
"Experience had a lot to do with this game," Theodore said. "You learn more what your coaches want. You learn more about the players around you. You learn more what your responsibilities are. You have more confidence."
The midfielder has played an important role in her time at Brandeis. In her rookie season, she was tied for first in number of games played on the team with 22. This season in particular, however, Theodore feels things are falling into place for her.
"Now I've played with the varsity girls for a long time. . I'm able to work with them a lot better," she said. "When you know your players well, you're able to work with them a lot better, and we're all able to feed off each other."
Theodore hopes her game against Springfield translates to her play for the rest of the season.
"Hopefully, [my play] will carry over to the next game . and we'll be able to make more opportunities for ourselves," she said.
