Last Saturday, midfielder Ellie Einhorn '11 had both a goal and an assist to help the 25th-ranked Brandeis women's soccer team defeat New York University 2-0 and qualify for the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.Einhorn set up the team's first goal on an assist to forward Sofia Vallone '11 in the 33rd minute of action. Einhorn found Vallone at the top of the box, and Vallone was then able to fire a shot into the corner of the net for the Judges' first goal.

Einhorn was modest in describing the play. "I passed the ball off to [Vallone] at the top, and she took a great shot from a very difficult angle," she said.

In the 69th minute, Einhorn's third goal of the season put the game away for the Judges, sealing the tournament berth. She was able to redirect a header from defender Ali Maresca '12 that deflected off the crossbar and place it into the net for the team's second goal of the day.

"Someone headed it and it hit the post, and I just volleyed it," Einhorn said.

The game against NYU was the Judges' final game of the regular season. Finishing with a record of 14-4-1, the squad worked its way to the most impressive record that the women's soccer team has ever achieved. "I feel really lucky that we have such an amazing team this year. I really feel like this is the best team that we've had," Einhorn said. "All the team chemistry is amazing, and the seniors, all four of us, are really close."

With the win, Brandeis not only qualified for the tournament but will host games during the tournament's first two rounds. The squad takes on Castleton State College on Saturday.

Einhorn said that in order to succeed in the tournament, the team needs to focus on its next opponent rather than worry about the big picture. "I really like to look at it one game at a time," she said. "I feel like if you look at it too big, then you don't focus enough at the task at hand. We should do really well. I have trust in my teammates.
