For the 2010 to 2011 season, justSports has been given a press pass to attend Boston Bruins home games. We will cover these games periodically throughout the year. Just under 3 minutes into the second period of their Saturday-night game against the Los Angeles Kings, the Boston Bruins found themselves down 3-0. The Bruins had a 1-5 record in games in which they trailed by two or more, while the Kings were 9-2-0 when scoring first this season. It did not look good for the men in black and gold.

Somehow, the Bruins were able to climb back into it, scoring the next three goals to tie it at three and force an unlikely overtime. The game ultimately went to a shootout, and the Bruins lost 1-0 in six rounds. Boston's record on the season is now 11-5-2 after the team's victories earlier this week against the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers.

Neither team was able to score to start the shootout, and it wasn't until Boston center David Krejci missed his chance in the sixth round that Los Angeles center Michael Handzus got the puck past Boston goalie Tim Thomas to win the game for the Kings. "When I go in, I just decide what I see and what my options are," Handzus said of his shootout strategy. "I saw a couple of guys trying to make a move and [Thomas] was pretty deep in the net, so I just tried to shoot it."

The Kings struck first in the game just under a minute in on right wing Brad Richardon's fourth goal of the season. Handzus then got the second goal of the period at 11 minutes, 17 seconds, just after a Boston power play ended. Defender Davis Drewiske earned an assist on the play. The Kings' third and final goal then came just under three minutes into the second period off the stick of center Jarret Stoll, making it Stoll's 100th career goal.

"The first one [goal], I just lost my angle a little bit, and he [Richardson] was moving his feet," Thomas said. "The other two were kind of fluky, one went behind two guys and I didn't even see the rebound, and the third one, I stayed with the passes, I knew [he] had a shot at it, and it deflected off of something."

The Bruins then scored twice in the second period and once in the third to tie up the score. Wheeler scored the first goal 4 1/2 minutes into the second period off of assists from center Tyler Seguin and defenseman Zdeno Chara. The second goal came 7 minutes later when center Gregory Campbell hit the puck past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick after he saved the initial shot from left winger Shaun Thornton. Both Thornton and center Brad Marchand got assists on the play. The goal came with the Bruins having an extra attacker on the ice in a delayed penalty situation. Boston center Patrice Bergeron then scored the third goal on a power play. Wheeler and right wing Mark Recchi got assists on the play.

Last Thursday night, the Bruins won their third straight game with a 4-0 win at the Florida Panthers. The Bruins also won last Wednesday night, defeating the Rangers 3-2. The Bruins are next in action tomorrow night on the road against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. before playing two more games on the weekend. Friday they return home to face the Carolina Hurricanes at noon, and on Sunday they go back on the road to face the Atlanta Thrashers at 5 p.m.
