It's been an uneventful week in the world of celebrity news-everyone was probably so focused on making their Halloween outfits they completely forgot to remain entertaining-but thankfully, we can always rely on reality television to provide a little bit of fun and excitement. Although I guess this hasn't exactly been the best week for all reality stars...
Bachelorette stars, this set of news is for you- and I'm sorry to report it isn't too good. Emily Maynard, the eighth and most recent Bachelorette of the series, has officially split from her former fianc?(c) and show-winner Jef Holm. But honestly, was this really a surprise? Despite Holm's July proposal to the single mother of 7-year-old daughter Ricki, the two weren't exactly experiencing newly-engaged bliss. In fact, the former couple has been a reality roller coaster throughout the summer. In mid-August, Maynard caused a rift after Holm discovered inappropriate text messages and photos to and from another man on his fianc?(c)e's phone. Perhaps rift is an understatement-the explicit messages were discovered when Maynard and her daughter were vacationing with Holm and his family, turning her actions into quite the scene. And Holm wasn't innocent either-he started reaching out to former girlfriends, even meeting up with one in early September in a hotel. All in all, it seems pretty incredible that these two made their engagement last a full five months.
Romantic TV life isn't the only kind with some drama. Heard of a little show called American Idol? The once uber-popular singing competition is entering its 12th season and, naturally, trying to freshen things up with some new faces. Who are the 2012-2013 judges chosen to assess singers' abilities? Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. While it's possible that these artists were chosen for their accomplishments in the field, it's more likely they were hand-selected to revive ratings-and they certainly are creating a buzz. Specifically, the two ladies have reportedly been feuding; but what seems to have begun as a rumor stirred up by the show's producers has escalated to real life.
On Oct. 2, as Us Weekly reported, a video hit the Internet revealing the "Pound-the-Alarm" singer's profanity-filled reaction on the set of the show after having a disagreement with Cary about a contestant: "I'm not f-kin' putting up with Her F-kin' Highness." This is not to say that the original diva is totally innocent-reportedly, Carey has made known her belief that Minaj can't sing and has been making jabs at her fellow judge since filming began. Mariah's husband, DJ Nick Cannon, has even been getting in on the feud, reportedly refusing to spin any Minaj songs. Ridiculous as this feud may seem, it might be exactly what Idol producers were hoping for-after all, it got me talking about the show again. But honestly, I think it's just easier to stick to scripted television.
