I'm not here to preach about good and bad behavior-I just relay the news about it. But this week, in my opinion, was filled with some of the nicest and the meanest behavior in the pop culture universe.

Let's start off with the Biebs. The pop star was in the Big Apple this past weekend to serve as both the host and musical guest for Saturday Night Live. Per usual, there was an obscenely large gaggle of gals waiting outside NBC Studios on Friday hoping to catch even the slightest glimpse of the singer and (hopefully) win some free tickets to watch him in all his Bieber-tastic glory.

But those fans got far more than they were expecting: Nemo. Sure, we got hit here at Brandeis, but New York City got her fair share of snow, too. And, of course, that meant that the Beliebers waiting outside 30 Rockefeller Center had to brave all the blizzard-ly elements. But Justin proved he treats his fans well; the star ordered them piping hot pizza pies! All morning, NBC and Justin's fans were blowing up Twitter with pictures and tweets of appreciative girls holding up boxes of Famous Original Ray's Pizzas (mmm). Talk about a nice guy.

While Justin was busy feeding his fans on the East Coast, his off-again-on-again girlfriend, Selena Gomez, was making some of her fans smile on the West Coast this past Thursday. After landing at LAX, the 20-year-old Disney princess was mobbed by fans screaming for an autograph as she climbed into her royal coach (aka, black SUV). Rather than ignore the mob or crack open the window and give a quick autograph, Selena surprised everyone-including her bodyguard-by inviting three of the girls into her ride! Everything was captured by TMZ-including one of Selena's bodyguards yelling, "Stop! Stop!" as the trio of girls filed into the car. Some news outlets are calling the decision dangerous, but the three thankful fans feel differently, having tweeted and posted pictures singing praises of their idol.

With so many random acts of kindness, I guess it's only to be expected that somewhere, someone in Hollywood would be brewing something bad. And so, I introduce to you Rex Reed, a movie critic for the New York Observer, who seems like more of a bully than a journalist. Last week, Reed wrote a review for Identity Thief, a film that he didn't quite enjoy.

That's fine-everyone's entitled to their own opinion. But Mr. Reed crossed the line from informative critic to downright nasty. Reed spent most of his malevolent energy ragging on Melissa McCarthy, whom he described right off the bat as "cacophonous" and "tractor-sized" (it should be noted that he didn't provide any other actors with any sort of description). In another mature comment, Reed called McCarthy a "female hippo," while referring to her co-star Jason Bateman as "charming" and "attractive." The mean-spirited critic even falsely attacked McCarthy's career, claiming it was "short" and hinges on her being "obese and obnoxious." Yuck. Someone get this bully a season of Gilmore Girls and a new attitude.
