Maggie Balch leaves University
Associate Dean of Student Life Maggie Balch has left the University after more than 11 years of service.
According to Dean of Students Jamele Adams in an email to the Justice, no announcement from the University will be made or is forthcoming, “[i]n her own style and at her request.”
Prior to her service as Dean of Student Life, Balch served as the Assistant Dean of Student Life and the Director of Residence Life. “We are appreciative of her more than 11 years of service to our community, and showing love to our Brandeis Family,” Adams wrote.
When asked if the University is currently seeking to replace Balch, Adams wrote that he is “taking advantage of this transition to work with my team to develop the best leadership structure for the office in support of our students and will keep you posted.”
Balch is listed as the current dean of student affairs at the Rhode Island School of Design on the school’s website.
A press release on the search firm Spelman and Johnson Group’s website offered its congratulations to Balch on her appointment as dean of student affairs at RISD. Chief Operating Officer at RISD Jean Eddy, who served as senior vice president for students and enrollment at Brandeis until fall 2010, was listed as a partner in the search process, along with other members of the RISD search committee and administration.
Eddy accepted a position as RISD’s senior vice president for students and enrollment and was to resign from her position at Brandeis at the end of September 2010, according to a Sept. 21, 2010 Justice article.
Balch did not respond to multiple requests for comment by press time.
