Teams both win at home meet on Friday
The men and women’s swimming and diving teams completed a sweep of Bridgewater State University on Senior Day this past Saturday. During their final home meet of the season, the men won 157-97 while the women walked away with a 160-125 victory, the squad’s first home victory of the season.
The men’s side had a very comfortable meet, evident by the score. Max Fabian ’15 once again led the way, taking a part of four of the team’s victories. Fabian anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay with a split of 23.98 seconds and an overall time of one minute and 34.29 seconds. Individually, Fabian won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:09.69, the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 2:04.70, and the 200-yard breaststroke, completing the race in 2:21.17.
After the sweep, Fabian was proud of the whole group after they finally got a home win, saying that the team’s efforts throughout the season led to this feat. “This season has been extraordinary, we have had many breakthroughs as a team and it has been a privilege to put in the hard work alongside my teammates that has made this possible,” he said.
Fabian was not the only one with a standout performance, with another quadruple winner and two other multiple winners. Brian Luk ’16 was on the winning side of four races. As a team, he was a part of the 200-yard freestyle and medley relays. Individually he raced the 200 and 100 freestyles, completing them in 1:49.41 and 49.01 seconds. Samuel Zucker ’18 and Edan Zitelny ’17 both came out of the meet with two individual wins. Zucker won both of the one-meter diving events with scores of 152.60 and 220.85. Zitelny won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 27.14 seconds and the 200-yard backstroke finishing in 2:10.66.
Having placed first in all 16 events, the men’s team had winners all over the charts, including wins from David Lazarovich ’16 in the 50-yard breaststroke, Abu Batjargal ’18 in the 500-yard freestyle, Evan Thom ’18 in the 50-yard butterfly, Zach Diamond ’18 in the 100 yard individual medley and Taku Harada ’18 in the 500-yard freestyle.
To get their first home win of the season, the women’s team came out with some very strong performances.
Joanna Murphy ’17 was one of those that stood out, participating in four winning events. Her only team win came with the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team posted a 1:48.95 time and she swam a split time of 26.69 seconds. Individually, she won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:03.67, the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.14 and the 200-yard butterfly race, finishing in 2:26.13.
She was joined as a quadruple winner with Sherry Tu ’18. Tu won two individual races, the 50-yard fly with a time of 28.52 seconds and the 50-yard freestyle in 26.42 seconds. For her team races she won the 200-yard freestyle relay as the third swimmer in 2:00.21 with a split of 28.08 seconds and took the 200-yard medley that finished in 2:00.11.
Other impressive racers for the women’s side were Fallon Bushee ’16 who won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 34.31 and the 100 free in 57.28. She also participated in the winning medley relay.
Individual winners for the women’s team were Abby Damsky ’18 who won the 200-yard back in 2:28.86, Yi Sul Richter ’18 completing the 500 free in 5:38.52 seconds, and Amy Sheinhait ’18 winning the 50-yard backstroke in 30.49.
The Judges will return to the pool this weekend, traveling to Clark University on Saturday afternoon.
