Bemis resigns as the VP for Human Resources
Scot Bemis has resigned as the University’s vice president for Human Resources. He will be starting a new position as chief human resources officer at Dartmouth College on April 27, according to Dartmouth’s website.
Bemis did not respond to requests for comment by press time.
In an email to the Justice, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Manos said that Assistant Vice President for Human Resources Michelle Scichilone will serve as the interim vice president for Human Resources starting on April 1.
This will be Scichilone’s second time as interim vice president, as she served for four months before Bemis was hired in 2007.
In a March 17 interview with Dartmouth Now, Bemis said, “I feel incredibly honored to be joining the Dartmouth College team … It will be a privilege to work with senior leadership, faculty, students and Human Resources staff.”
Manos will be leading a search committee to find Bemis’ replacement.
The committee will begin searching in the next academic year.
The members of this committee have not yet been decided.
At last Thursday’s faculty meeting, Provost Lisa Lynch stated that the search for Bemis’ replacement will not wait until the next University president is chosen because “[Bemis’ position] does not report directly to the president.”
Bemis’ responsibilities during his tenure at the University have included overseeing staff and budgets for the Office of Human Resources, overseeing recruitment and staffing for all non-faculty positions, negotiating collective bargaining agreements and managing the University’s Office of Equal Employment Opportunity, according to Brandeis’ website.
Prior to his work at Brandeis, Bemis also held several human resources positions within the U.S. Army.
Bemis previously served as the director of the National Guard human resource operations in Washington, D.C.
He also served as director of the leadership center in Tikrit, Iraq and senior director of human resources in Baghdad, Iraq.
