Coach Coven retires after 44 years
Coach Mike Coven of the men’s soccer team announced his retirement from the soccer program after 44 years at the helm of the organization. Coven leaves behind a rich legacy of victory and achievements, winning 526 total games and receiving the 2002, 2012 and 2015 UAA Coach of the Year awards.
Coven led the Judges to 14 NCAA berths and 11 Eastern College Athletic Conference trips. Of those, the Judges won one NCAA championship and 4 ECAC titles during Coven’s 44-year span.
Coven polished off his career after an incredible NCAA tournament run, leading the Judges to their fourth Final Four appearance during his tenure. The Judges finished their season with a 13-6-4 record and a third place UAA conference finish. Their NCAA tournament berth came as a surprise, but the Judges took it in stride, blasting through their opponents with the guidance of Coven. The Judges beat Western New England University in a 2-1 battle to advance to the second round. There, the Judges handled St. Joseph’s College of Maine 3-0 and then dismantled the Amherst College offense in a 3-1 penalty round. The Judges lost their final game of the season in a 1-0 loss to Calvin College.
