So far this season, Brandeis men’s fencing team hashad two meets. The first meet occurred on Oct. 28 in Northampton, Massachusetts. The second meet was this past Saturday at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Next up, the Judges will compete in the Brandeis Invitational on Dec. 2 and in the Western Invitational on Jan. 13 in Colordo Springs.
Professional basketball has raged on in the season, and each conference has had its share of action.

This season, the men’s basketball team started the season on Nov. 3, playing the University of Saint Joseph. Although this game ended in a loss of 63–76 for the team, the Judges have a long season to come. The squad came back in the second game, conquering the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a score of 63–56. The Judges are 1–1 for the season so far.
AFC North: Despite a lot of drama surrounding two of the team’s biggest offensive stars, the Steelers are on top of the American Football Conference North Division and their offense has been nothing but potent. Despite Le'veon Bell holding out, rookie running back James Conner has been electric, and the offense hasn’t skipped a beat. Big Ben is playing with veteran prowess, and it's hard to look bad when you’re throwing to Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster most of the time. The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals have shown promise, but both teams are riddled with inconsistency. While the Bengals currently hold the better record, the Ravens have a higher ceiling and would be a more dangerous team in the playoffs.
Massachusetts residents have set a new record for voter turnout the 2018 midterm election, according to a Nov. 9 CBS Boston article. On Friday, Secretary of State Bill Galvin confirmed that 2.7 million voters had gone to the polls, compared to 2.1 million in the 2014 midterms. At the time, ballots were still being counted. Massachusetts re-elected Republican governor Charlie Baker. FiveThirtyEight considers Baker to be a “moderate, or perhaps even liberal, Republican.” Voters also elected an all-Democratic House of Representatives delegation to Washington, D.C. The state also voted on three ballot questions.

Father Walter Cuenin, the University’s Catholic chaplain from 2006 to 2015, was removed from ministry and his position at Brandeis due to alcohol addiction and a “related incident” involving an adult male student, the Archdiocese of Boston’s Secretary for Communications and Public Affairs Terrence Donilon confirmed in an Oct. 3 email to the Justice. The University had originally attributed Cuenin’s departure to unspecified “health reasons”in a Jan. 13, 2015 email from Dean of Students Jamele Adams.
Wellesley Invitational
This weekend, the Judges played their last three games of the 2018 season. The women have had a pretty strong year, ending with an overall record of 13–17. The Judges have had their best season in the UAA in nearly a decade.

Tonight’s games mark the beginning of another season of college basketball. Even on the first day of the season, there are already some matchups with potential championship implications. At 7 p.m., the preseason top-ranked University of Kansas will take on Michigan State, who are ranked 10. Later, at 9:30 p.m., second-ranked University of Kentucky will take on No. 4 Duke University. Within just two hours of opening day, there will be two games featuring two hall of fame coaches going against each other. In that spirit, let’s take a look at some of the teams that are most likely to come out on top when the season concludes in early April.
With their season almost at its conclusion, the Brandeis men’s soccer team can now reflect on their season as a whole. As has been a recurring theme throughout the season, the team garnered high expectations after making it to the Division III Final Four just last year. However, with a 7-8-2 record and one game left to play, it is safe to say that those expectations have not been met. Still, though, the team has a lot to be proud of, and the season will be remembered for its high points and its low points. Unfortunately, one of the low points came last week — the team is currently riding a three-game losing streak.
The Brandeis men’s and women’s fencing teams participated in their first meet of the season this past weekend. The teams traveled west to Northampton, Massachusetts to take part in the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Fall Invitational, also known as "The Big One." Each team had one of their top fencers defending their titles with the foil weapon. Here is how the Judges fared in their first meet of the new season.
The Judges continued their season this week with two games against non-University Athletic Association rivals Wellesley College and the University of Massachusetts-Boston. With the two losses that resulted from these matches, the Judges are now 11–16 overall for the season. Looking ahead, the Judges will play at the UAA tournament on Friday at the University of Rochester, where they will take on UAA rivals Emory University and Carnegie Mellon University. Brandeis is currently 0–7 in the UAA.
The Brandeis men’s soccer team has almost completed their regular season. They had a campaign defined by high expectations and close games. After starting off slow, they picked up as of late and won a few key games. This past week, they faced off against Clark University and Amherst College. Here is how the team fared in those games.
The men’s and women’s tennis teams both wrapped up their fall seasons with two different matches. The men’s team attended the Tufts-Deis Invitational that was held at both Brandeis and Tufts Universities, and the women’s team attended the Middlebury Hidden Duals at Middlebury College. The teams continue to fight a strong set of matches against their opponents.
