Despite RIAA, LTS maintains policy

Despite requests by the Recording Industry Association of America to universities to monitor their networks more closely, Library and Technology Services officials said they have no intention of complying.

The University will form an advisory group to discuss the possibility of campus safety officers carrying firearms, Chief Operating Officer Peter French announced in a campuswide e-mail Thursday.His announcement comes amid heightened security concerns after the recent shootings at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where a gunman killed 32 people and himself.


Campus GLBTQ community seeks full-time support director

Over the past few months, members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning community have started lobbying the University to hire a full-time director to help facilitate programming and support for the GLBTQ population on campus.The proposal, written in 2003 by several professors, has been adopted by TransBrandeis, a division of Triskelion.


Slight rise for senior donations

One out of every four seniors has already donated money to the University, a four percent increase from last year's graduating class, according to Senior Class Gift committee members.As of last week, about 150 members of the Class of 2007 had raised $7,137.11 for their senior gift, which is used to finance many of the University's costs, including maintenance and professor salaries, according to the University's Development and the Alumni Relation Web site.

A student who claimed he was promised a refund for a ski team weekend that he paid for, but did not attend, will finally receive one, as the Union Judiciary ruled in his favor in their first case of the academic year, Jeff Stein v.
