Plan calls for TVs on Rabb steps

Students may be able to watch television as they walk to class, if a new plan proposed by Union President Alison Schwartzbaum '08 is approved.Under the proposal, two 42-inch flatscreen televisions would be placed on the Rabb steps, in the Usdan Student Center and in the Shapiro Campus Center and would air advertisements for campus activities through ChyTV, a video graphics display, Schwartzbaum said."This is an opportunity for clubs and other campus organizations to figure out interesting ways to publicize with this new marketing tool," Schwartzbaum said.

University plans to decrease first-year enrollment

With Deroy Hall under renovation and Scheffres Hall set aside for sophomores, next fall will find only six of the eight dorms in the two first-year quads occupied by first-years-a number made possible by Admissions' plans to admit a smaller incoming first-year class. There will be enough housing for the incoming class of 2011, Senior Vice President for Students and Enrollment Jean Eddy said.In order to accommodate the large class of 2010, the Of----fice of Residence Life added Scheffres Hall to the list of available housing for rising sophomores.

Residents push for CA's reinstatement

Following Community Advisor Emilio Mendoza's '09 termination, residents on his hall are expressing strong disagreement with Residence Life's decision.Mendoza, formerly the CA on the second floor of Usen Hall, was fired last Wednesday, he said.A request for comment by Massell Quad Director Jennifer Lelinski was answered by Dean Gendron, associate director of ResLife, who said that ResLife does not comment on personnel matters. But students on the floor said Mendoza was fired for various reasons, including not filling out a self-evaluation, missing rounds one night-CAs are obligated to circulate the quad and ensure that students are safe-not making new name signs for the rooms after winter break and not filling out other paperwork.---Mendoza said he could have been more responsible and that he understood the decision, adding "everything happens for a reason."But residents said those reasons were not enough cause for his dismissal and that he always responded to problems as they occurred."He made sure our transition was smooth; that's what we care about," said Ethan Palmer '10, who started a Facebook group in protest of the fire.
