New study abroad policy ill thought-out

Right now isn't the most fun time to be a Brandeis sophomore.On Friday, the Division of Students and Enrollment notified students via e-mail of a flurry of sudden and extraordinarily inconvenient changes to study abroad policy, putting into jeopardy the plans of current sophomores who had considered studying abroad during the coming academic year.I'm a first-year, so studying abroad is still in my relatively distant future.


Faculty Senate's pay cut idea was unjust

More than one-third of Brandeis' Arts and Sciences faculty kindly made donations to the University in response to the Faculty Senate's job-saving proposal regarding voluntary pay cuts to save the jobs of a couple of faculty members.


USEM shouldn't have been so easily dropped

The incoming students in the Class of 2013 won't be the only ones negatively affected by the elimination of the University Seminar program, but they will be unquestionably disadvantaged.Although the USEM program will be substituted by the practically identical and optional First-Year Seminar, as the University clearly understands, when presented with a choice to enroll in an FYS, many students would simply opt out.
