Vagina Club's funds for charity misplaced

The Union misplaced approximately $3,500 in funds raised by the Vagina Club last year, officials close to the situation said.The funds were raised to benefit the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center last year during the annual Vagina Fest.


Treasurer finds receipt forged by club leader, freezes funding

A student club submitted a forged receipt to the Student Union, Union Treasurer Choon Woo Ha '08 said.Though Ha repeatedly declined to name the club that committed the forgery, he said the fake receipt was made out for a "three-digit figure."The club had already been allocated the amount by the Finance Board, Ha said, but its leaders were supposed to submit a receipt as proof of payment so its goods or services could be paid for by the Student Union.


Public Safety to test run Green Line shuttle

The University will attempt a trial run March 10 of a shuttle service to Brookline after a previous effort failed, according to Director of Public Safety Ed Callahan.Callahan said the shuttle, which consists of one full-size bus of 50 to 55 seats and a 25-seat mini-coach, will take students to the Coolidge Corner Green Line T-stop.Senator for the Class of 2008 Michael Goldman said he, Castle Quad Senator Eric Alterman '09 and Union President Alison Schwartzbaum '08 recently met with Callahan and a representative from Crystal Transport to confirm another trial run after last December's trial run was cancelled due to low student interest.


Union to fund two selected parties each weekend

The next time you attend a private party on campus, it may be on the Student Union's dime.Union Officials say they are going through with a proposal to reimburse party sponsors up to $50 for party costs including alcohol, soft drinks, snacks and other expenses.


Lodging and transportation to be funded

The Student Union's Finance Board is now able to reimburse eligible student groups for lodging and transportation costs, Director of Communications Brian Paternostro '07 said.The new funding allowances were made available by last year's reforms to the club funding system, Paternostro said."Due to the large-scale increase in the amount given to the F-Board, we are able to now allow clubs to receive funding for some of the most expensive expenses," he said, adding that the change only required a simple F-Board vote to change current rules.Last spring, the student body overwhelmingly voted to reform the distribution of the Student Activities Fee, enacting legislation that would potentially take money away from larger secured groups and redistribute it among smaller groups.


Student Union to purchase voting system software

Next time students vote in a Student Union election, they will probably do so on an outsourced system.Union officials say they will purchase a voting program from BigPulse, a company that makes online-election software, in time for the Union's spring elections.
