Punk, Rock n' Roll club gains space

For at least this semester, the Punk, Rock n' Roll Club will occupy an office space in the Shapiro Campus Center that was made available in November by the Office of Student Activities.The group beat out Students Talking about Relationships and Top Score in the application process, which gave them access to Conference Hall D, on the third floor of Shapiro.


East hill to get quick fix before possible reconstruction

Residents of East Quad concerned by the steep path leading to it will have to wait some time for a permanent solution.In the meantime, the University will try to make the hill safe for this winter, a senior administrator said.The Office of University Services will add a new coat of asphalt to the steep hill and build a third railing along the middle of the path this month, Vice President for Campus Operations Mark Collins said.


ResLife explores how to deal with impending shortage

The Department of Residence Life is considering various options for dealing with the impending housing shortage that will occur after the demolition of Ridgewood Quad this summer, which will result in the loss of 109 beds.To accommodate the most undergraduates on campus, Director of Residence Life Richard DeCapua said, the University is considering placing undergraduates in some Charles River Apartments, which are currently designated for graduate students.Other options include changing the class-designations of Residence Halls, such as placing more sophomores in first-year dorms and reevaluating the number of lofted triples for first-year students.


Plagiarism detection service to be tested soon

In an effort to curb academic dishonesty, professors will begin utilizing an online plagiarism-detection service on a trial basis next semester, an LTS official said.Turnitin.com, a commercial Web service professors used to determine if a student's paper bears any similarity to other sources, will be available to Brandeis professors in response to growing concerns of student plagiarism.


Effectiveness of negative campaigning questioned

More channels offered as Internet TV service is made permanent

Library and Technology Services this month doubled the number of channels available on Internet Protocol Television, the University's online television service, and it no longer considers the service to be experimental, officials said.LTS officials stressed that the future of the project depends, for the most part, on student feedback and financial considerations.Comedy Central, CNN, Fox, MTV, The Food Network, TBS and the Japanese Channel were all added to the IPTV lineup for this semester.


Activist group seeks new home

With plans to convert an empty space in the Village into a home for the Activist Resource Center off the table, leaders of that club are now working with administrators to secure a new space.University administrators said renovating the room into a home for the ARC would be too costly.
