Board discusses options for closing budget deficits

Trustees focused their discussions on the budget challenges the University will face over the next years and also received updates on the status of the Curriculum and Academic Restructuring Steering committee's plans at last Thursday's meeting, administrators said.

Mandel committee to advise provost

The steering committee for the Mandel Center for the Humanities will advise Provost Marty Krauss on the allocation of space inside the new Mandel Center building, Dean of Arts and Sciences Adam Jaffe wrote in an e-mail to faculty last Monday.


Two offices will move to Bernstein Marcus

The Office of the Arts and the Office of Human Resources will receive new space in the Bernstein-Marcus Administration Center at the end of this semester in the area previously occupied by the Admissions Office, which is now located in the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Admissions Center, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Peter French wrote in a campuswide e-mail Thursday.


New admission center hosts Fall Open House

The nearly 900 visitors who attended yesterday's Fall Open House had the opportunity to visit the new 21,000-square-foot Carl and Ruth Shapiro Admissions Center, which first opened its doors to prospective students last Tuesday.The new building, the construction of which began in August 2008, is spread out over two floors and features larger waiting areas and more offices and workspace than the previous admissions center, a kitchen and a 100-seat presentation room.


University projects increased deficit for fiscal 2011

The University is projecting a $9 million deficit instead of a $7 million deficit for fiscal 2011, in part because the rate of faculty retirements, which are part of the University's academic restructuring plan, has been slower than expected, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Jeffrey Apfel said at a faculty meeting last Thursday.


Jaffe will request progress updates

Dean of Arts and Sciences Adam Jaffe intends to ask department chairs to give an update on their progress in meeting the Curriculum and Academic Restructuring Steering committee goals when they submit their annual curriculum plans in December, according to a summary of the most recent Dean's Curriculum Committee meeting sent to faculty Sept.
