Center for Ethics board member steps down after Al-Quds conflict

In the aftermath of the controversy surrounding the University’s severance of its educational partnership with Al-Quds University last November, several members of the Brandeis community took to pubic forums to express their discontent with how the situation unfolded?including a longtime member of the advisory board of Brandeis’ International Center for Ethics, Justice and Public Life, Michael Ratner ’66.On May 28, The Jewish Daily Forward’s website published an open letter from Ratner to University President Frederick Lawrence, announcing and explaining his resignation from the advisory board.


Student Events plans restructure

In the interest of involving more of the student body in its operations, Student Events has begun to restructure its club to increase membership size and streamline club function, with changes to go into effect next semester. In the fall of this year, Student Events members began talks about changing the way the group is structured, but it was not until this semester that they started to actually envision a restructuring of the club's leadership, Student Events Executive Director Samantha Gordon '14 wrote in an email to the Justice. At the National Association for Campus Activities Convention, which was held in Boston in February and was attended by members of college programming groups similar to Student Events, the group was exposed to many new ideas about ways to restructure its current system and optimize the process.


Jay Pharoah brings 'Deis Day to a close

Saturday Night Live comedian Jay Pharoah performed a comedy show on campus to round out an afternoon packed full of activities and school spirit for the Student Union's second annual celebration of 'Deis Day.

This week, JustArts spoke with Do Dang '15 and Catherine Cho '15, the president and vice president of Brandeis Asian-American Student Association, respectively, about the group's celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. JustArts: Would you tell us a bit about APAHM and what it means to BAASA to be celebrating it and sharing it with the Brandeis community? Catherine Cho: APAHM stands for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and basically, it was recognized by the United States as a national celebratory month in May of 1992 officially.
