Last week, Dean of Arts and Sciences Susan Birren terminated the appointment of Pippin Ross as lecturer in journalism at the University.
As part of the ongoing strategic planning process, the University is considering incorporating off-campus housing into its residential system for undergraduate and possibly graduate or faculty use.
At this past Sunday's Senate meeting, Village Quad Senator Benjamin Beutel '12 proposed several bylaw amendments specifically addressing the confusing process of chartering or recognizing clubs, clarifying the vague duality of purpose clause and working to involve senators more in the process. Of the bylaw amendments that have been suggested, several serve to provide more structure and instruction for senators and students.
In his inaugural address nearly 11 months ago, University President Frederick Lawrence emphasized his commitment to "develop a strategic vision with concrete plans to secure Brandeis' place as an elite global liberal arts university." Two overseas trips later?most recently a productive trip to India?and it's clear that we are well on our way to achieving his goal. In addition to the newly formed academic partnerships Mr. Lawrence has made, this board suggests an additional, innovative approach: iTunes U.
This week, the International Center for Ethics, Justice and Public Life, along with the Student Union, is sponsoring the first Deis Impact.
At its March meeting, the Board of Trustees will be discussing the budget for the fiscal 2013. The administration will give the board a list of their top-priority projects to which it believes money should be allocated.
It's Rush Week. Whether or not Brandeis recognizes Greek life on campus, fraternities and sororities are undeniably a part of student life here.
With the official reopening of the pool in the Joseph M. Linsey Sports Center this past Saturday, we join the rest of the University community in celebrating the close of a rather dry chapter in Brandeis history. After three years as one of the only top-tier American universities lacking a pool, this editorial board commends the University administration for finally implementing the necessary repairs in order to make the pool once again usable, and we hope that similar projects will be undertaken as needed for other parts of University infrastructure as well. The restoration of the pool now presents all students with an opportunity that had unfortunately been lacking here over the last three years: swimming.
